Location:  Scottish National Water Sports Centre, Isle of Cumbrae.

Organisation:  Administration team under the banner of Strathclyde West Coaching Panel. Comprising of Gordon Brown, Matt McElroy and Duncan R Winning with Gordon Brown as the Co-ordinator.

Background:  It was felt that although a success, the Symposium was held to late in the year. The holiday weekend at the end of May was deemed a more suitable time. However, the Jersey Canoe Club already held the European Sea kayak Symposium on that weekend every second year. After consultation with them and in consideration of the workload, it was decided to move to a biannual event held at the end of May and alternating with Jersey. To get into synchronism, the next event would be held in May 1995.

1993

The "First" Scottish Sea Kayak Symposium
(for some reason long forgotten, the 1993 event became known as the "first"  Symposium - ignoring the one at Lendalfoot which had that distinction.)

Date:  8 to 10 October 1993

Location:  Scottish National Water Sports Centre, Isle of Cumbrae.

Organisation:  Bob Johnston, as Co-ordinator, under the banner of the Strathclyde West Coaching Panel, of which he was still the regional Coaching Organiser.

Contributors:  Gordon Brown; Gordon Clark; Howard Jeffs; Bob Johnston; George Kerr; Dave marquis; Archie Waters; Alistair Wilson; Marianne Wilson and Duncan Winning.

Background:  Bob Johnston's job as Divisional Water Sports Co-ordinator disappeared just after the Symposium as part of Strathclydes Region's cut backs. He resigned as Regional Coaching Organiser and as the event co-ordinator, having already booked the centre for the next year's event. At the Strathclyde West Coaching Panel's AGM in November 1993 it was decided that running the Symposium was too  big a job for one person and that a Committee be formed to take on that function.

1992

The Scottish Sea Kayak Symposium

Date:  16 to 18 Oct 1992

Location:  Lendalfoot Outdoor Centre, Ayrshire

Organisation:  Bob Johnston as Co-ordinator, under the banner of Strathclyde Regional Council Community Education Service. With support from Lendal Products and Valle Canoe Products.

Contributors:  Jason Buxton; Howard Jeffs; Alistair Wilson; Bob Johnston and Duncan Winning

Background:  At the AGM of the Strathclyde West Coaching Panel in October 1991 Duncan Winning had given a short report on his attendance at the first Anglesey Sea Symposium. He Suggested that if there was a desire to hold such an event locally, all the skills required existed within the Panel. Bob Johnston was elected as Regional Coaching Organiser for 1992, largely due to his position as Strathclyde Region's Divisional Water Sports Co-ordinator, a full time post based at Ayr Yacht Club and he decided to pick up on the symposium idea.
